FAQ
Should tip be on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?▼
Etiquette varies by region. In the United States, tipping on pre-tax is more common and what most calculators default to. In countries where service is included by law (parts of Europe), tipping is optional and small. The toggle lets you match local practice.
Why is per-person rounded different from total / people?▼
When "Round each person up" is enabled, each person pays the next whole-currency amount. The extra collected (vs the strict total / people) is reported separately. This is useful for cash splits where coins are inconvenient.
What is a normal tip?▼
Region-dependent. United States: 15-20% sit-down restaurants, less for counter service. UK: optional 10-12.5%, often included as service charge. India: 5-10% if not included. Japan: no tipping is standard. The presets cover the common range.
Can I save common scenarios?▼
Not yet. The form does not persist between visits. Bookmark the page with values pre-filled in URL parameters if you want a saved scenario.
